WE DANCED

We danced and danced the whole night through,

You held me tightly, yet gently, as good partners will do.

You did guide me 'round the floor as if I were on air,

I loved being in your arms, as we were dancing there.

We danced and danced the whole night through,

It was a waltz marathon, so different from the dances we knew,

Yet you, somehow, innately understood the steps that were new,

As we danced at the waltz marathon.

Oh, how we danced, we danced and we flew,

You threw me so gently, and brought me back to you,

You bent me backward, then upward anew,

And we danced at the waltz marathon.

You kept looking at me as we danced, gazing into my eyes,

You held me so tightly, yet gently, and to my surprise,

You told me that my eyes matched my gown of azure, sky blue,

As we danced at the waltz marathon.

You twirled me and swirled me just to watch my gown flow,

You told me that you loved to see the way it did so.

You held me quite tightly now, and did let me know,

There was something more than the waltz marathon.

You bent near to my ear and whispered to me,

That you, over the past year, had fallen in love with me,

And at this last waltz, would I please marry you?

I said, "Yes", at the waltz marathon.
